Dear readers,
Today I wish to share another great design object, one of a kind - the lounge chair DUE PIU!

The Due Più lounge chair (1971) by Nanda Vigo exemplifies her fascination with light, transparency, and minimal form. Characterized by a sleek, geometric structure it appears to “float” in space, creating interplay between the sitter, the chair, and its surroundings. This illusion of weightlessness underscores Vigo’s broader exploration of “cronotopia” (the fusion of time and space). The design’s clean lines and use of advanced materials for the era make the Due Più both visually striking and emblematic of the avant-garde Italian design movements of the early 1970s.

Nanda Vigo (1936–2020) was an influential Italian architect, designer, and artist associated with the avant-garde movements of the 1960s and 1970s, particularly the Milanese art scene and the international ZERO group. She studied architecture in both Milan and Lausanne (Switzerland), and worked alongside with notable figures such as Lucio Fontana, Piero Manzoni, and Enrico Castellani - key players in the Italian and European art scenes of the time. One of her most significant professional relationships was with the renowned Italian architect and designer Gio Ponti, with whom she worked on projects that integrated architecture, interior design, and the use of innovative materials - often employing Vigo’s signature approach to light and transparency.

Nanda Vigo won several awards over her long career. One high point was receiving the Compasso d’Oro (Golden Compass) - one of Italy’s most prestigious design awards - for her lighting designs.

Indeed, the famous lounge chair Due Più of Nanda Vigo is a groundbreaking design that merges furniture and lighting into a single, luminous statement piece. It simultaneously functions as a sitting and a light source, reflecting Vigo’s enduring fascination with minimalistic geometry forms and the interplay of light and space.

Beyond its visual and conceptual impact, Due Più exemplifies Vigo’s experimental approach in bridging art, architecture, and industrial design. By pushing the boundaries of material possibilities, Vigo challenged conventional notions of furniture and introduced a new, almost ethereal quality to interior environments. As a result, we have a lounge chair perfectly suited for Neoclassical and Eclectic interiors.

The structure is made of tubular steel frame with lucid chrome finish. Its gently curved form provides a comfortable recline, while the continuous, sculptural lines convey a sense of seamless flow. It is an astonishing design piece, where the use of two rollers that look like they’re floating makes a truly unique feature, making it an ICONIC DESIGN OBJECT!

Acerbis is a historic Italian furniture brand known for its innovative contemporary designs and high-end production quality, which was founded in the late 19th century in the Bergamo area (northern Italy). Over the decades, the company has collaborated with renowned designers such as Vico Magistretti, Gabriele & Oscar Buratti, Giotto Stoppino, and Massimo Castagna, among others, to produce storage systems and sideboards (for which Acerbis is especially noted), bookcases, tables and dining solutions, seatings, and more.

The lounge chair DUE PIU is also made here, combining cutting-edge technology and craftsmanship to achieve minimalist aesthetics, functional innovation, and refined finishing details:

  • Sled frame in Ø3 cm tubular metal with chrome finish.
  • The seat and back are padded with single-density polyurethane foam in a Ø19 cm
  • Cylindrical shape upholstered in Mongolia goat fur reclaimed from food industry waste, according to circular economy principles that make it compatible with contemporary ethics, in white, black and rust

“Due Più” is a unique lounge chair that seamlessly merges pure functionality and lightweight design. Crafted from curved minimalistic lucid structure, it appears to flow suspended in the air. This weightless effect encapsulates Vigo’s broader concept of “cronotopia,” in which time, space, and light converge in a single immersive experience.
