As we saw in detail from the previous chapters, each part of your home is responsible for one of the sectors of your life, but bathrooms, showers, and saunas in Feng Shui are seeing as some kind of “terrible evil” that “flushes away” the pure energy of Qi. That is why these areas are not recommended to be in the center of the house. Moreover, in many houses constructed following Feng Shui rules, these zones are placed usually at the end of a corridor at the north, leaving the south to the location of a living room and bedroom.

This is a prejudice, taking its roots from ancient times when there were no toilets in the house. However, rich people were curated by many servants who were cleaning and taking out regularly, keeping intact the Feng Shui of the house. Thanks to the evolution of industry and technology, we have always managed to organize these areas keeping them clean and fresh, at least regarding its physical aspects. While from the Feng Shui point of view, it is also necessary for clearing out the Qi energy, eliminating negative and unclean areas.

It is not easy to find the right place for the bathroom and toilette since it will get anyway in one of the eight sectors of your house/life. Nevertheless, avoid at any costs placing in the center of the house, which is considered to be the heart of a home or the “spiritual center” of your family. Ideally, in the center of the house must not be placed any of the following: bathrooms, staircases, elevator, fireplace, or kitchen.

But what can we do to correct the energy flow if we have one of the above situations? Different masters in Feng Shui have several techniques (opinions) on this matter. Here are some of the most applied:

  1. You could make the door invisible by positioning a swing door with invisible built-in handle or paint the door the same as the wall so it will mimic the ambient.

  1. Positioning strong lighting above the door entrance will help to neutralize the negative energy. A powerful warm light (yang) brings strong positive vibrations.

2

  1. If you wish to neutralize the bathroom presence, it will help to make the outside door finish ina mirror, it will visually “disappear”; or, you could hang a mirror on the door, it will have the same energetic effect, although aesthetically the first option will be much better.

  1. The master in Feng Shui Lillian Too, author of several works in this domain, suggests correcting the energy with the help of five hollow sticks representing the Five Elements. It is also because in the Lo-Shu quadrant, the number five is corresponding to the center of the house, and at the same time it brings together (unifies) the energy of all the eight directions. Further, to correct the energy in a bathroom, depending on what direction it is located, we can use the “destructive cycle” of the five elements. Earth stops Water, so to correct the energy in a bathroom that is positioned on North (governed by the element of Water), we shall position here five sticks made of ceramics (or other material representing Earth). Metal damages Wood, therefore in a bathroom that is positioned on East or South-East, put five metal sticks. Water extinguishes Fire, so in a toilette located on South, position five sticks made of glass. Fire damages Metal, therefore, on West and North-West place five red sticks. Wood consumes Earth, thus on South-West and North-East allocate five wood sticks.

  1. Moreover, taking into consideration the theory of Lillian Too and the “destructive cycle”, you can expand the symbols representing five elements by choosing, for example, a red pyramid as a fire element, a plant pot to represent a wood element, etc.

Yin and yang are conveyable, not fixed concepts. In other words, an object is a yin or yang depending on the context of the environment. Looking at two alongside objects, the one that emanates more energy will be seen as yang, while the one with more susceptible energy will become yin. Taking the same room, if we will paint walls in a deep color, hold low temperature and walk-in rarely, the energy in this room will become yin. If, on the contrary, paint the room in vivid color, warm it up and fill with plants, domestic animals, or people, the energy here will become yang. Everything that surrounds us, all the objects in our house, depending on its color, shape, materiality, behold several elements at the same time.

Feng Shui teaches how to balance yin and yang, use the five elements and eight cardinal directions, to obtain the perfect balance in your house and life.
