The table's name refers to the straight legs made of steel sheet lacquered black, paired in a geometrical form, and evoked the wings of an airplane. Combining thick borders and oblique edges of the black laminated top table emphasizes the solid base legs structure. It would not be easy to find another table designed in the Twentieth Century capable of synthesizing so well the industrial beauty.
Prouvé was extraordinary at designing furnishings and modern houses at reasonable prices and was a pioneer in prefabricated materials. Furnishings created by him entirely reflect his architectonical style, using clean and sharp lines, with meticulous attention to used techniques such as electric welding and folding of metal sheets.
Although many of his creations were designed for French universities, during the next years have been adapted to be used in private homes, becoming in time objects of design.
Since 2002 this table design is produced by the Italian company Vitra.
Best wishes,
