Appealing to trends in innovation emerging in Artemide, De Lucchi proposed an adjustable lighting system based on a cantilevered structure and spring balancing. The diffuser can be rotated at 360 degrees, made in satin anodized aluminum, and the joined elements are in polished aluminum.  

The table lamp is available in three versions, with interchangeable supports, a base for a table lamp, a base for the floor lamp, or a screw for fixing to the desk. Tolomeo is offering significant flexibility respected to the precedent models and was soon declared having the best synthesis of shape and functionality. The original model was modified several times and transformed in table lamp, floor lamp, wall, and ceiling mounted. Available in polished and anodized aluminum, it won the prize “Compasso d’Oro” in 1989 and until today remained a selling success around the world. From 1987 until today, it is produced by the Italian producer company Artemide.
